Illness Update

I didn't get to update over the weekend, but I thought people would be interested to know that Ro was sick on Friday but is back to her old self now. Rowan woke us up about 2:30AM Friday, having been sick in her crib. We cleaned her up and took her into bed with us so we could keep an eye on her. She woke up again at 6-ish, and she felt a little warm, so we tried to give her Tylenol. She fought mightily, and we ended up only giving her about 3/4 of a dose, which she threw up about 20 minutes later.

Both Jen and I called in to work and we had a little bit of breakfast and resettled on the couch. Rowan promptly fell asleep snuggled into the crook of my arm. She was even warmer when she woke up, and had a temp on an under-arm thermometer of 102.5, so we went into the doctor, where she had a fever of 103.7. The doctor wasn't particularly concerned at the high temperature, though, since Ro was relatively alert and agreeable. He told us that there had been a bug going around, and to expect some more vomiting for that day, then probably some diarrhea, then she should be fine. He said Tylenol or Motrin was sufficient to manage the fever in the meantime, and otherwise let things take their course.

On the way home we grabbed a better thermometer, some child chewable Tylenol, and some liquid Motrin in a berry flavor. She ate one chewable (of the directed two), and then a couple hours later we gave her the Motrin. Her temp went down to the 101 range after the one chewable, then back up to 104-ish when we gave her the Motrin. We gave her another dose before bed, and she was 99 degrees the next morning. Her temp didn't come back up that day, and we never encountered the vomiting or diarrhea the doctor told us to expect, so things look good. Rowan would have been fine to go back to daycare today, but Jen is off today for Veteran's day anyway, so she's home with Ro.
